SPECIES DESCRIPTION
HYMENOLOBUS PROCUMBENS

Family and Genus:- See- CRUCIFERAE

Common Names:- None

Homotypic Synonyms:- Hornungia procumbens, Lepidium procumbens.

Meaning:- Hymenolobus (Gr) Membranous pod.
                  Procumbens (L) Lying flat on the ground.

General description:- Delicate, glabrous or puberulent annual.

Stems:-
1) Usually several, procumbent to ascending, 5-20 cm.

Leaves:-
1) Lower, lyrate-pinnatifid or spathulate and subentire.
2) Upper, entire.

Flowers:-
1) Raceme, slender, ebracteate.
2) Petals, minute (c. 1 mm), equal.
3) Filaments, without appendage.
4) Fruiting pedicels, 3-8 mm, slender, patent to ascending.

Fruit:-
1) Silicula, elliptical to lanceolate. flattened at right angles to the septum so the
    septum crosses the narrowest part of the ovary (angusti-septate).
2) Seeds, 0·4-0·6 mm. 3-10 in each loculus.

Habitat:- Rock and sandy coastal habitats, saline vernal pools, 0-10m

Distribution:- A very widespread species, but native distribution uncertain.
On Crete currently known from only a few scattered coastal locations.

Flowering time:- Mar-May.
